Connect MetaMask to Binance Smart Chain (BSC): a comprehensive guide

Pic 1

MetaMask is one of the most famous crypto wallets in the market. That's why it's crucial to learn how to operate it. Today, we are going to explore how to connect MetaMask to Binance Smart Chain (BSC). Fasten your seatbelts, because we are about to get started.

What is Binance Smart Chain (BSC)?

Binance Smart Chain (BSC) is a blockchain network developed by the popular cryptocurrency exchange Binance, which holds the top position in terms of market capitalization despite recent challenges

BSC is designed to enable smart contract interactions and decentralized applications (dApps). It aims to provide a fast and low-cost alternative for executing transactions and deploying dApps compared to other blockchain networks.

Interesting fact! Since February 15, 2022, Binance Smart Chain, along with Binance Chain and its Binance Chain Wallet—components of Binance’s decentralized blockchain ecosystem—have been rebranded as BNB Chain. This refreshed Binance blockchain is named after its native token, Binance Coin (BNB).

Understanding MetaMask

MetaMask is a widely used cryptocurrency self-custodial wallet and gateway to the decentralized web, often referred to as Web3. It is available as a browser extension and also as an app for iOS and Android.

MetaMask allows users to interact directly with Ethereum-based dApps from their browsers. Additionally, MetaMask supports custom networks, enabling users to connect to various blockchain networks beyond Ethereum, such as BSC, which we are about to discuss.

Why connect MetaMask to BSC?

Connecting MetaMask to BSC opens up a world of possibilities for users, and here are just some of them:

  • Access to BSC Dapps. Users can interact with decentralized applications built on Binance Smart Chain directly through MetaMask.
  • Low transaction fees. BSC offers low transaction fees compared to other blockchain networks, making it cost-effective for users to perform transactions and engage with Binance Smart Chain Dapps.
  • Interoperability. MetaMask's integration with BSC enhances interoperability between different blockchain networks, allowing users to seamlessly transfer assets between Ethereum and Binance Smart Chain.

As you can see, there are several compelling reasons to add the BSC network. That's why we've created this tutorial on how to integrate Binance Smart Chain with MetaMask.

Step-by-step guide: connect MetaMask to BSC

No special knowledge is needed. This is an easy step-by-step guide that you can use to prepare your device to dive into Web3 using MetaMask and BSC.

Step 1: install and set up MetaMask

If you have already installed MetaMask, just skip this step. If you don’t, download the version that suits your device and create an account. The process includes seed-phrase creation, along with a login and password. Make sure that you save all sensitive data offline, including seed phrases, because coins storage safety depends on it.

Step 2: Access MetaMask settings

Once MetaMask is installed, click on the MetaMask extension icon to open the interface. Next, click on your account avatar located at the top right corner of the window and select "Settings" from the dropdown menu.

Step 3: Add Binance Smart Chain network

In the custom network settings menu, navigate to the "Networks" tab. Scroll down and find Binance Smart Chain network, then click on it.

Then the system will open the main menu of settings, which you can use to deal with the task. Pick BNB Smart Chain, make sure that all the network data is correct:

  • RPC URL: https://bsc-dataseed1.ninicoin.io Chain ID: 56
  • Symbol: BNB
  • Block Explorer URL: https://bscscan.com/ (don’t hesitate to use blockchain explorers as a tool to provide all the data about transactions).

Now push the “Add a network” button.

Step 4: Configure custom RPC settings

After adding the Binance Smart Chain network, scroll down to the "Advanced" section in the Settings menu. Here, you can configure MetaMask custom RPC settings for the BSC network:

  • State logs.
  • Clear activity and nonce data.
  • Other settings, such as show hex data.

You can also find a button to dismiss secret recovery phrases, backup reminders, and other features. Before clicking on something, make sure you totally understand the consequences.

Step 5: Save and connect to BSC

After you’re done with the settings, switch the network. You can find the switching tool on the left corner. Choose the BSC mainnet.

Now you can check MetaMask BNB balance and conduct transactions within the network.

Using Binance Smart Chain with MetaMask

Now it’s time to talk about BSC usage inside the MetaMask universe.

Adding BNB and other BSC tokens to MetaMask

To add BNB or other Binance Smart Chain tokens to your MetaMask wallet, simply send them to your BSC wallet address as displayed in MetaMask. Make sure you have sufficient BNB to cover transaction fees and for interacting with BSC dApps.

Interacting with BSC Dapps

When MetaMask is connected to Binance Smart Chain, it provides seamless interaction with BSC dApps, much like it does with Ethereum dApps. Simply navigate to the dApp's website of your choice and connect your MetaMask wallet to start using it.

Managing transaction fees

While conducting cryptocurrency transactions on Binance Smart Chain, you'll need to pay transaction fees in BNB. MetaMask will automatically display the estimated fee for each transaction, allowing you to adjust the gas fee according to your preferences.

MetaMask and BSC: frequently asked questions

Use this section to find answers to the most commonly asked questions about the wallet and Binance Smart Chain.

What are the benefits of using BSC with MetaMask?

Access to a wide range of BSC dApps, lower transaction fees compared to Ethereum, enhanced interoperability between different blockchain networks.

How secure is MetaMask on BSC?

MetaMask employs industry-standard security measures to protect users' funds and private keys. However, it's essential to follow best practices for wallet security, such as keeping your seed phrase secure and avoiding suspicious websites or applications.

Troubleshooting common issues with MetaMask and BSC

If you encounter any issues while using MetaMask with Binance Smart Chain, make sure that you've correctly configured the custom RPC settings and have sufficient BNB for transaction fees. Additionally, you can seek assistance from the MetaMask support team or community forums for further guidance.

Conclusion: unlocking the potential of Binance Smart Chain with MetaMask
